A writer in answering this question states that the oil companies make about $.09 per gallon profits, now how can this be true when just last week they claimed their profit amounted to $.70 for every $3.00 in gasoline, sounds like hogwash.
In fact, I have a neighbor that owns a marathon station, and he makes more than that himself, the $.09 I mean.
Now, when all stations in an area raises their prices $.40 per gallon overnight, you tell me that's not price gouging, when we all know they are selling gas they already have in their storage tanks, and the price doesn't come down until that gas is sold and gas under a new lower price is delivered to them, and then it only comes down pennies.
These oil companies are screwing the public much the same as the drug manufacturers, with the blessing of our politicians.

GOUGING GOUGING GOUGING!!!! I guess they want to meet up with Saddam in the after life, freaking greed bastards. Even if they didn't raise the price they would still be rolling in money. How many billions of dollars are they making a day? Of of my one family, they are easily making $100.00 a week, AFTER we traded in our SUV for a tiny car so that we wouldn't have to spend $200.00 a week. I'm sure with all of the profit they are making the cost of fuel for their privet jets will equal the amount of their pocket change.
This isn't like buying generic clothing or food. This is oil, everybody needs it. Sure I can buy reguler or plus, but in the end the profit is all going to the same people.

The problem is that most people do not understand supply and demand economics and what the structure is of the cost of gas per gallon. Do you know that we are using more oil now than EVER before! People are driving at an alarming rate. Do you realize how much petroleum’s used in making plastics and then how many things we use are made of plastics? The oil company makes about 9 cents a gallon as profit. The rest is made up of Federal and State taxes, the cost of exploration and production, Refining and then the cost of the additives that we have to put in the gas (we call it designer gas, thanks to the environmentalist wacko's). Do you know that we have not built a refinery in almost 40 years? (thanks again environmentalist). The refineries that we have are working at capacity and that is not enough to keep up with demand. Do you know that we hardly get any oil from the Middle East? Most people think that is where it all comes from. Not true. We get our oil form Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Africa, in that order. What we get from Saudi is a very small %. You want the cost of gas to drop....STOP driving, open up the ANWR for drilling and off our coasts (thanks again environmentalist) OR come up with an alternate fuel.

ITS THAT guy is a hundred% suited. Watch the fast-term fights over fee and grant to be sure which component the government is on -- yours or theirs, customers or manufacturers. And watch the arguments over long-variety measures in seek of a existence like stability between production and conservation, between exploration for oil and progression of renewable aspects. in this foundation, President Bush's oil-soaked administration rather qualifies through fact the main flagrant bunch of petroleum business enterprise shills through fact the 1st visual charm of deadly extreme capability issues in 1973, whilst the Arab middle of the enterprise of Petroleum Exporting international places first flexed its anti-American muscle mass with too plenty US acquiescence.

Check the profits at your local C-store who began raising prices before you could mourn the sacrifice of the first plane. By the time plane 2 hit I recall them doubling the prices.

After reading the other two, consider this.....if you were in charge of enforcing the laws, and your millions were coming from the gas prices, would you enforce that particular law? They won't because they are getting rich off the poor residents that cannot afford to not fill thier tanks and go to thier low wage jobs that pay for the crappy home trhey live in because after paying for gas that's all they can afford.

Oil companies have structured their pricing so that they make 7 cents on each DOLLAR of product they sell. What this means is that as different costs conspire to raise the price of gasoline, they make more money per gallon.

Of course, people have to BUY the gasoline before they make any money at all.

If you're buying the gas instead of using public transportation, walking, riding your bike - whatever - then you are part of "them" who keep supporting this system.

If, when selling your house, you accepted the highest offer instead of the lowest, would you be gouging the little guy? Same thing.

Plus it is fortunate for those who own oil stocks, such as myself, in large quanities.
