my computer has alot more memory than my work computer, i purchased my computer 3 months ago & it seems my computer at work is much faster with a 512 memory & 160 gb hard drive, i heard from 2 different computer repair guys one said "yes" and the other said "no", i have dsl.

The processing speed is relatively constant as defined by the chip manufacturer.

However, accessing the pictures through the file system could be slowed down by the traditional issues such as fragmented disk structure.

From the contents of the problem description, it seems that you might be comparing different issues. DSL is a network connection that generally provides less than 1 MB/sec.. of throughput. The uplink speed could be considerably less.

At work, you might likely be on a much faster link.

Therefore, if you use the Internet a lot, the limiting factor will be the network connection. The processor speed and disk capacity will generally be significantly less important.

No the pictures are just data. But remember the systems at work are probably much better than what you have at home. As far as the DSL thing goes, Why oh why DSL? Also the hard drives come in different speeds.

Having a lot of graphics does not effect the speed of the computer. BUT, displaying them, or downloading them certainly does, and that's when high speed access to the web (DSL) will help.
