You shouldn't need a filter anytime soon. Just toss in a pair of Great White sharksto keep the mess cleaned up in the tank. Once the Great Whites breed you might want to add a sponge filter.

OMG! You have 4 Oscars in a 50 gal? Get rid of them, soon! I use to have a 55gal w/2 Oscars, and they got to a certain age and happened to be a male&female, they were getting ready to breed. When they do this they become over the top aggresive! Did you also know the can get really quite big? Just for 1 Oscar, they need atleast 90 to 110gal tank, not to mention they are the messest fish for aquariums!I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, especially during feeding!

Coelacanth? Those are the most rare animal in water and you have two in a 50 gallon tank??? Those get very large, say 4-6 feet long. Sounds fishy to me.

i highly doubt you have a coelacanth, firstly they're rare and not available inthe pet trade, secondly they're saltwater and not freshwater like oscars. they are however related to lungfish, so if the OP isn't pulling our legs, it's more likely a lungfish or even bichir which kind of look similar in a prehistoric fish way.

either way, if this isn't a troll post, this tank is horribly stocked. not even 1 oscar shouldn't be kept in a 50 gallon tank, the tank is too small, let alone 4. and they should not be kept with lungfish or bichir's either.

I hate when people always post "your overstocked" "you need to get a bigger tank". But this time I'll have to agree. I have 2 oscars, a pim. catfish and a pleco in a 55 gallon and its hard to keep the levels right.I have two h.o.b. filters. And as my oscars grow they are becoming quite annoyed with each other always fighting. well in the end you'll do what you want so GOOD LUCK.

This must be a joke.

Oscars need at least about a 70 gallon.

And that's just for one.

Coleacanth are rare, and you have two?

And not filtration?

haha!

the best filter for you would be a 220 gal sump set up.
