Cuz he also put up Nash like numbers (except in percentagse) and averaged almost twice as many steals as Nash and took his team to the NBA finals twice

Yes, he should have, but he played against a much stiffer competition, so he did not stand a chance against his peers. In 1990 and in 1991, he averaged better than 17 points per game along with better than 14 assists per game (certainly better number than Nash - in 1988, Stockton shot 0.574 from the field), but how can he beat out Magic (1990) and Jordan (1991)?
This just shows that once a player is named MVP, he is NOT better than all of those players who have never won an MVP award. Oscar Robertson won the award just once, Nash is definitely not in his league. Both Jerry West and Elgin Baylor never won an MVP award, how in the world can you say Nash is better than those two with a straight face.
With that said, Nash is one of the greatest point guards the league has seen, but he's lucky he didn't play in the 80's where he'd be lucky to be a fixture on the All-NBA 2nd team (with Magic, Jordan, Stockton, Thomas, Drexler as competition).

Stockton probably never deserved the MVP... then again.... they always screw that award up anyway... Seriously... how many did Jordan really deserve... I guarantee it's more the 5.

Stockton was a better player than Nash. I'm pretty sure Nash deserved the second of his two MVP's. Shaq should have won it the first year Nash won. I have nothing against Nash, but look at the list of 2-time MVP winners and back to back MVP winners. He does not belong.

Played under the shadow of Karl Malone

you don't even have to go as far as Jordan to answer this. He was playing with Karl Malone and it would go to him before Stockton.

Stockton & Malone. Best combo ever.

Unfortunately he also played during the Jordan Years and many and thus was overshadowed.
