If it's a loud 'moany' 'gurgly' type sound that goes on whilst the cistern is re-filling it's probably water hammer. If you look at the pipes leading into the cistern you should see a join with what looks like the head of a screw in it. You need to turn this very very slightly to change the bore of the pipe to allow the water to flow through either more quickly or more slowly, I can't remember which and I can't remember which way. I suggest you try one way then flush, if no good, let it fill then try the other, but it only needs to move a little way, not even a quarter turn probably.

If the noise is loud and gurgly you probably have a partial blockage in your drains. first get a bucket of hot soapy water a pair of disposable gloves, an old handbrush and a set of drain rods. Lock up any dogs, cats and grandma's to keep them out of harms way. Wearing the gloves have a good old poke about with the drain rods, (Keep twisting them clockwise all the time, to keep the joints tight) after you are happy with the rodding out pull back the rods one at a time and using the brush and soapy water clean off the rods, throw away the brush and gloves and pour the remaining water down the drain, replace the cover and your noise should be fixed. If it isn't, at least you have discovered what lies below the ground. Beware of poking the rods through any adjacent windows or doors. HAVE A NICE DAY....... Don't try this whilst wearing your best suit.

If it's a loud banging noise (1-2 bangs), our plumber told us it was two pipes in the basement hitting each other for some reason. He said he could fix it, I think by insulating one of the pipes, but that it's completely harmless. It's been 4 years and we still have a loud bang at the end of each flush/fill up. I hope this helps.

It's because the flush valve inside the tank is not closing all the way as it should when the tank has refilled all the way. That flush valve needs to be replaced. That will fix your problem. By the way, that, "Whistling" sound is the sound of water that is still running into the tank through the flush valve because it hasn't shut it self off all the way.

Remove the tank cover and flush. See if the noise is coming from the fill valve. It may have something blocking the shut off mechanism.

Ballcock shutting off to quick and shocking the pipework back through. It may be that you have the wrong orrofice inside the ballcock. You could fit a pressure reducing valve but thats a little extreme

sounds like a loose pipe, that needs steadying,,,, it could be coming from anyway on the pipe work, and it sounds like its possibly mains fed. follow the pipe, and where the pipe doesnt look supported hold onto it and flush toilet,, if it stops you know you found the bit of pipe that needs securing,,, if its not on any visible pipework,, it could be under the floor. if you have a valve on the feed to the toilet,, try turning that down first.
