As a Sixers fan, I was pretty livid when I heard some Celtics players all but admit that they were tanking. This is why the lottery exists. Football is different because as opposed to basketball, where you can excel with a few really good players, football requires far more depth throughout the entire team. A number 1 pick for an NFL team is unlikely to singlehandedly make a difference right away. In the NBA, a top pick can turn things around drastically in less time.

Hell yes they got screwed! The problem with the NBA lottery system is that the worst teams don't always get the help because their ping pong ball doesn't come up! Now in other sports the worst team gets 1st pick but in the NBA they are worried that teams can tank games if they know they are not going to make the playoffs. This could be true but then so can an NFL team! It is also bad for the sport of basketball because these teams that are desperate for a franchise player end up with someone who is good but is not the player that can make them a championship caliber team. How can this be good? Yes it is true that you never know if a number 1 pick is going to be that type of player and that there are later picks who turn out to be all-stars but that shouldn't be indicative as to having the worst team and not having the shot to get what is suppose to be the best player in the draft!

Doesnt matter, they draft the wrong players anyway! And the good players you did draft you traded before they matured. How would you Celts fans like Billups and Joe Johnson back right now?? McHale and Ainge, great players, bad Executives. Plus the Celtics tanked their last games, who should feel sorry for them. Stop whining about the draft they are great players to be chosen after the top two. Was Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh a top pick, no, just gotta know how to pick them. Boston dont.

Why should teams be rewarded for intentionally losing? Think about it, Ryan Gomes even said that they sat him in the 4th quarters of games just for this purpose. Also the head coach of the Grizzlies got a contract extension after posting the worst record in the NBA. Van Gundy got fired after making the playoffs!!! Hopefully Pierce gets p!ssed and asks for a trade and leaves Boston with NOBODY. Look at what this has done to the legacy of the Celtics. Pathetic.

Your right, they were screwed.
I'm surprised that the NBA didn't rig this draft so that either Boston, NY or Philly got one of the top picks. For the NBA to remain viable they need to get their revenue up in the big market cities in the north east. Nobody is going to pay $100+ per person to go watch the crap the Celtics are putting on the court right now.

It seemed like this year, they tanked in order to improve their chances of getting either Oden or Durant. That obviously didn't work, so given the track records of GM Danny Ainge and Coach Doc Rivers, expect the Celtics to lose 65-70 games this year in order to improve their chances of getting OJ Mayo.
Then watch as another team gets the first overall pick and Rivers gets a big, fat raise to go with the extension he got after this season.

The lottery should go by teams records and it is unfair because the blazers had 10 more wins than the Celtics and Grizzles.

Normally i would say luck of the draw but the nba draft lottery was rigged in 1985 (its 1st year) so you never know. Im just happy my team(Portland) got the 1st pick.

Not at all. Just because they tanked the season to try and improve their chances of a #1 pick doesn't mean they were entitled to it. Everybody knew how the lottery was structured.
