We are looking for a program that not only scans and tells you what and where you are infected, but something that will get rid of it and prevent new occurances. We have a trojan horse, fo mone, among a few other viruses. Any help would be great!

AVG is ok free and lavasoft adaware is good too. You could just get a free trial from someone like symantech (norton antivirus) for about a month. Works as good as any other.

I see the AVG fanboys and cheerleaders are out in full force again here on Yahoo Answers!

In short, AVG Free is crap!

Mostly noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. These types love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

In test,

etc. etc. etc, ad nauseam, AVG free fares poorly.

AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.

AVG. = Average, at best!

There are much better free alternatives such as Avria Anti-Vir:

and Active Virus Shield:

There are several, you can try ClamWin, Avast, or AVG. I've used all three at one time or another. Right now I run the avg paid program on my home computers.

Seems like this is the question of the day. Go to www.grisoft.com and look around for the free version of AVG. It works great.

Another vote for Grisoft's AVG. I've been using it for several years and have had no problems. I back it up with periodic scans from panda.

I use ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and hijack this.

You can pretty much type any of them in google or Yahoo search and you can find free downloads. They're all free programs and good ones at that.
