I thought neither race nor gender made a difference as long as the candidate was worthy of the presidency? Yet a lot of democrats are making this to be really important, continually trying to divide the people of the US along the lines of race and gender! Aside from this election, their weren't any serious minority candidates in 2004. Al Sharpton and Carol Moseley Braun, both of whom withdrew from the race, were the only minorities! So why is it such a big deal now that the dems have some in this line up?

I've heard a lot of democratic political analysts make the statement on various news channels, and have heard a lot of people call in on the radio making the same statements!

I've been hearing this before the first GOP debate on MSNBC!

There are three possible answers to your question:

A. The Vaaaast Right Conspiracy has taken all the serious conservative minority candidates and locked them in the dungeon until after the elections--because everyone knows we hate blacks, women, jews and gays.

B. There are many, many well qualified conservative minority candidates, but they refuse to run for fear of being called "Uncle Tom" etc. by our tolerant liberal friends who enjoy other's rights to a differing opinion.

C. No qualified minority conservative candidate chooses to run at this time.

This discussion started with the Fox sponsored Republican debate, where the candidates were asked by the Fox employed moderator about the lack of diversity on the stage. The next day, Rush took offense that Dems weren't asked that question back in 2004. Then again, there was diversity in that Dem race as well as today. Republicans started the discussion, some Dems are responding to that.

No. every person with 0.5 a innovations in politics is conscious that Specter is a average. he's not a good vote for every person. He became a Democrat until1966, then a republican. truly he ought to stick to the "self sustaining" label. i think of this is humorous which you think of your playground call callings have any validity, much less value.

Because the party is apparently unable to field a good minority candidate. It begs the question of what is the reason for this? Some would argue that they do not have the best interests of women and minorities at heart and that is why they can't raise a serious candidate.

Because they want to make Republicans look like racists. Honestly, the nominees the Dem's have are not worth a grain of salt. I would like to see Rice or Powell the next time around.

I've heard that on this forum alone, numerous times. A few days ago, someone had the audacity to say that if you don't vote for Obama, you're racist.

It's a race card issue and it won't work.

The dems ARE NOT making a big deal out of it. Anyone with eyes can see that the GOP lineup does not represent the rich diversity of our nation. Embarrassing, isn't it.

I'm a Democrat, and I couldn't care less. Do you have a source? Or are you taking the opinion of one or two extremists and acting like it represents everyone?

It just exposes the Republicans for what they really are, a rich white men's club. The lesser beings (according to them), women and minorities, may get tricked into thinking the republicans care about them, but in reality they would NEVER elect one of them to lead.

That is great as far as I am concerned. The Dems do not look for the most qualified. They want the "first" black, woman, etc. A losing strategy.
