I'm not suggesting there is a correlation, btw.

Well, Washington DC was the highest in 2000, followed by Nevada, and New Mexico. I wouldn't consider any of those the "bible belt". Then Mississippi, and Texas. All those state have rate over 100.

The following are over 90
Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina. Those state include bible belt states and the notheast too. So it is all over the map.

The reason the bible belt seems to have the highest numbers is they have the least abortions leading to higher birth numbers. I included a link to a study on teen pregancy. Check it out for yourself, all the facts are in black and white.

It seems there is a correlation ... if your looking for facts rather than mere rhetoric.

And so you shouldn't, as there probably is no correlation. I believe it is because people in the 'Bible Belt' or southern states are closer to the earth and to their roots than the sophisticates in New Yawk Sity. Therefore, younger members of the society are closer - ergo having sex - and being younger, not using birth control techniques.

In Bible belt states, there tends to be more of a focus on abstinence only sex education. While this kind of education shames teenagers out of buying condoms or other forms of birth control, it cannot shame them out of human nature. Sex is going to happen, with or without a condom, and when abstinence is the only form of birth control being taught, there will be more unprotected sex, which leads to more pregnancies and more STDs.

Probably because they aren't educated enough about safe sex. Another stat I heard about the Bible Belt is that more porn magazines are sold there than in other parts of the country.

There is a causal relationship. Because of the greater influence of the right-wing "Christians" (so-callled) access to birth control and to information about sexual matters is a good deal less available to teens.

I think it is a lack of sex education for young adult..instead of promoting safe sex they promote no sex at all so these people get caught up in the moment and make a mistake. If they would talk to the kids and educate adults and provide safe sex methods then it would be less. Jesus can not keep you from getting prego...God is not a condom..

Its really not.
The states with the highest teen pregancy rates are Nevada, followed by Arizona, then new mexico.
But face it...there are stupid little kids getting pregnant in every state.
