If ticks are popular in your area, I would recommend putting your dogs on Advantix. They also make a Lyme vaccine...in my area, we don't have a large amount of ticks, but if people are hunting with their dogs, then we recommend they get the Lyme vaccine. For the dogs that dont go in the woods, basically go outside and do their thing, then come right back inside...then we don't give it unless the owner wants it. My vet is really into NOT over vaccinating dogs. Your vet should have some type of handout they can give you on all the different vaccines they have for all the different diseases that dogs and cats can get.,

There are many diseases that both dogs and cats can get. I work for a pet insurance company and hear horror stories of pets with Lyme Disease, or other debilitating diseases every day. Talk to your vet and do lots of research about the specific species and breed of your pet so that you are aware of what is most common in the type of pet and breed that you have. Cancer is very common in pets and pets are more likely to get cancer than humans.

lyme disease can be prevented by keeping your animals out of heavily wooded areas. and if you do go hiking or camping with your dog, you must do a complete body check. if there are any little black things sticking out of your dogs skin, it has a tick making its way in and that is where they get lyme disease. you can buy something called a Tick Pick. it is a little pick to safely pull out ticks with out leaving part of it in your pets body. i have so far only seen them at the vet, but it iis at the fron counter so no visit fee is required.
boths dogs and cats can get many diseases. the best prevention is up to date vaccinations and prompt medical attention if your pet is sick, acting strange or just generally looking unwell. animals try to to show pain or illness because it shows that they are weak and in nature predetors go for the smaller weaker animals for food.
if you want detailed info on diseases that they can get or are likely to get in your area you must consult with your local vet.

lyme disease comes from a deer tick and if you treat your animals for ticks then that should help and also if you are to catch it soon enough you could be able to prevent it and if you find a deer tick on your animal take it to the vet then you can see if your animal has the disease.

Yes it can be prevented. A good flea and tick treatment will do the trick. Parvo and Rabies can also be prevented with a trip to the vet for immunization.

The best way to prevent it is not to take animals into bracken and if you go in cover up completely. The nasty buggers are hanging on the bracken just waiting for you.
