I've bought cheap-o brands and higher end sound-isolating ones. I've tried not tying them around my iPod as some people have suggested - all with the same result. One channel stops working after a few months. It's not like I'm abusing them! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I would go with the Shure headphones. The price is of a higher end but they are built with durability and quality.
