Not positive on that Mike, but I will do some research for you on this one. First poster is way off and that is not accurate. There are some fish that thrive better in higher PH and some do well in lower, but overall, if you are not seeing signs of stress in your fish, and you acclimate them slowly, you should be fine, but I will look up the specifics on a bristle nose for you and get back to you on that :)

Here you go Mike right from the link I will list as resource.

Will accept pH 5.5 - 7.8 and can be acclimatized to both hard and soft waters. Some species may require soft water to spawn.

I intrepet that to support my initial idea that you can get them to live in somewhat higher ph's provided you acclimate them slowly.

If it could live in those conditions, it wouldn't be a happy fish.
It would prefer a PH of 6 - 7 with soft water.

NO fish should be kept above the ph of 8 or more

Ditto to Jon here... they could manage it, but they won't like it. Once you address the issues in your water chemistry post they will be perfectly happy.

it should be kept at 6.5-7.5 (african cichlids kept at 7.8-8.5)
