Hello -

I've noticed this with various client computers when I uninstall certain pieces of software.

When uninstalled, you'd think that the program would officially be gone, but however, certain traces remain.

In your case, you might want to check the "msconfig" file, under the startup tab and look for anything that Avast put in there.

I'll tell you how to access it, but I strongly urge you to be careful. Messing with this file and not knowing what you're doing could seriously mess up your computer.

From the Run command, type "msconfig" without the quotes. A window will pop up with several tabs. Click on the Startup tab. Scroll through, looking for anything from Avast. You'll probably find a couple of entries. Delete out the Avast entries, if any. If you deleted anything, and hit "Ok", the computer will make you reboot.

Again, be careful. Be certain you know what you're deleting. Once those files are no longer accessed when your pc starts up, you should be able to go in to the Program Files folder, select the Avast folder, and kill it. :)

Good luck!

It is a good program. If you still want to uninstall it go to Control panel, then to add or remove programs and then find avast some where in top and click Uninstall or change or remove, what ever appears and it is done.

Uninstall is built into many antivirus programs. Get Norton Internet Security 2007. Do not fool with those free programs.

Should be simple, download a fresh copy of Avast from www.avast.com
Install it, during install, it will give you the option to uninstall totally.

This is because the startup entry has not been deleted. To delete it, go to

Start > Run

and type "msconfig"

Go to the Startup tab

and remove the entry that points to Avast.

This should be fine.
