1. A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet, but smaller than a town or city.
2. A town is a community of people ranging from a few hundred to several thousands, although it may be applied loosely even to huge metropolitan areas. Generally, a town is thought of as larger than a village but smaller than a city.
3. A city is an urban settlement with a particularly important status which differentes it from a town. A City is primarily used to designate an urban settlement with a large population. However, city may also indicate a special administrative, legal, or historical status.

Village or town i thought referred to the size of the place. Village little population. Town large population. A City within the UK is anywhere with a Cathedral, however big or small the place is for example St David's population about 2,000. Although some cities have been given "city status" without the need for them to have a cathedral.

No one definition will satisfy every one.
A large village may exceed the size of a small town.
You might also want to add hamlet, and metropolitan borough, and conurbation to your list.
Cities usually have a royal charter in UK.
Its incorrect to say that all cities have cathedrals.
By the way, some towns have minsters.
