You said it right there in you headline! BANDWAGON! A lot of people root for winners because they want to think they are cool and so they can talk smack about how great their team is! These are what are commonly call FAIR-WEATHER FANS! They root for who is ever the best at the time! True fans stick with the teams they have always loved no matter how bad they do! The best way to determine a fair-weather fan is to find out how much they know about the teams history! For example if you say you are a Yankees fan and are 40 years old ask them who were the players on their 70's team and if they can't name at least 6 then they are fair-weather fans! Hell I hate the Yankees but I can tell you a lot of players from the 70's but I can also tell you a lot more of the players from the teams that have have been following all my life! The other fun way is to ask them about players on their teams when that team was doing horrible!

It's funny how all these "so called true yankee fans" say that there were no Red Sox fans around until after 2004. I for one think thats a load of BS, I myself a true Red Sox fan and have been since my dad had me watching games with him when I was 4. I have stuck by my team through all the bad and yes I was lucky enough to see them win the WS. There were many of Sox fans who wernt able to see that great accomplishment. It just is very frustarting to be called a "bandwagoner" or a "frontrunner" becuase I am a sox fan. While I know there are very many true Yankee fans out there, there are far more bandwagon Yankee fans then there are bandwagon Sox fans. When the "NY" logo of the Yankees is viewed as a fashion statement it is proof enough of my point.

Bla, Bla, Bla, Every time I see these same BS it always comes down to payroll. Why can't you Yankee haters come up with something more original.
Every team in baseball with the exception of a couple of small market teams have plenty of money to compete. They just choose not to. The won't spend the money they have.
Of course you're going to see "fair weather" fans of all kinds. It was amazing how many Red Sox fans came out of the wood work after 2004. They all disappeared until about a month ago. If the Red Sox take a dump later in the season, you won't be able to find one of those so-called fans.
Like most "real" Yankee fans I here. I'm not going anywhere. If we win, great, if we don't then there is always next season. It's not do or die like it is with Red Sox fans.
I wouldn't call anyone who wears green NY jerseys or red NY hats Yankee fans. Real Yankee fans know what to wear!!

It is so stupid how people do that.I think that most or alot of fans of the NYY 's are just fans because their cowards who were told that New York was the best team ,and thats why alot of people like them.It is so true what you said because everybody who walks around with all that watered down new york hats and shirt **** dont even watch baseball period.
It's like my sister, she claims to be a Yankee's fan ,and i ask her why and all she can say is ''I dont know ,because their good'' .She only knows one player ,guess who? A Rod.She does'nt even watch baseball.I guess she just likes the Hat.
Then theres my arrogant brother n law,who is also a Yankee's fan ,but it's understandable because he was born and raised in New york City.He watches all the Yankees games and he plays softball, but my only problem is that he talks about my team (the A's) like their crap. Then he has the nerve to say "when's the last time the A's have won a world series". and im like what the heck, your team has'nt won nothin in a long while, especially since their supose to be the best team, so dont try to disrespect my team ,and since New York is so great then ,why the hell you livin over here .
Well im sorry i just got carried away, but that was a good question.

everyone wants to be a winner
i grew up watchin yanks baseball in jersey and my whole family is yankees fans
its good and bad to see the yanks fans all over the country
good because it shows how great the team is that people will throw out local allegiances to root for the pinstripes
bad because of that same reason. wut kind of fan dumps the local team to root for the winner
rite now is the crunch time
real yankees fans are the ones who can honestly say rite now that we are in trouble
real yankees fans do not think clemmens is a yankee--he may have worn the pinstripes but he will never be a yankee
real yankee fans dont take the tour of monument park at the stadium because they can recall pretty much every number thats been reitred
lets see those so called "fans" live up to the the yankee name

I would have to disagree with you. This is the worst possible time for a person to become a yankees fan. I realize i'm young and have seen them from when they blew up to now when they can't stop losing. But what about any sports team that suddenly wins Red Sox fans wouldn't show their face in public around 200 0 and now you can't walk down the street with someone wearing a pink Sox hat.

I'm not a Yankees fan, at all, but I don't think the Yankees' fan base are at all bandwagon fans. They've been with them through thick (most always!) and thin (this season, for once), and although they do turn on their players if they displease them, they'll still be pinstripe fans forever.

Probably because no one cares to stick by there team anymore they rather jump to a team that has brought so many titles home already. Which bothers the heck out of me cuz im a Met fan and ive stuck with them through it all. there are some people here in NY who claim to be yankee fans but cant even name the starting line up.

The main reason is because it is all you hear about. I am from the midwest and I still hear more about the yanks and the red sox than I do the cards and the cubs. ESPN saturates the market with the east coast baseball. All forms of media assume that everyone like the yanks as much as they do.

New Jersey doesn't have a team so the usually root for either the Mets or Yankees.
Regardless of what team they decide to cheer for they can't name 10 players from either. They are just general fans of that team and not pure fans.
