I mean we always hear everyday about a few troops being killed and yeah that sucks, but I didn't know any of them. 20,000 people were murdered in the Us last year and I didn't know any of them so why should I care, millions of people die of natural causes every day, who cares. Theyre are at least 10 wars going on all over the world so why should I care or anybody else for that matter care.

Freedom, what the hell is everybody talking about. Who is trying to take away our "freedom." That is government propoganda BS. Fight for freedom, every whackjob miliita in Africa says their fighting for freedom when they hack a mother's head off in fron of her children before she is shot. I never asked anyone to fight for my "freedom" I'll do it myself if I ever feel it threatened. I agree with the poster who gives a damn. So if the country calls a draft and people are forced into war, are they still fighting for freedom.

Addition: Right field, those troops really defended the world trade centre's freedom. That is acutal proof that theyre not defending our freedom, its a crock.

because our troops should be doing soldiers work not mercenarily capturing and defending oil interests...
we care because every soldier is a person with a family...
we care because with 20,000 people murdered do we really need to lose more from a **** fight we shouldn't've started?...
we care because if we'd just signed up when we were 16 or 18 or whatever it could be us getting shot at for no good reason...
we care because this is another government sending their military into a place they shouldn't be, and we don't want to "get fooled again"...
we care because we're human, and we don't like the idea of extra humans getting killed when we can't fix the huge list of murder victims, people dying from diseases people hurt and injured by things we should be able to prevent...
war is another death toll we never need... if our armies are so strong and capable of attacking then they should be just as good at defending and aiding in a disaster...

I had to answer this in response to other answerers who mentioned freedom. What is the war to do with our freedom? It isn't like when Germany invaded Britain in 1940 and freedom was really at stake. We would still be free in America and Britain if the troops came home.
You should care about our troops because they are willing to be called on at anytime to TRULY defend our freedom in the future. It is not there fault that they have been called to fight a pointless war by the crazy politicians

Most of us, at least those of us with a heart and some compassion, can feel for the people who lose loved ones. I think the war in Iraq especially hurts because those young people in the service who died, didn't die because of illness or an accident. It was our government deliberately sending them into harm's way for no good reason. That's what is so upsetting about those deaths. You are in desperate need of what is called EMPATHY. Look it up in the dictionary.

We care because they are over in Iraq trying to secure OUR freedom. As much as I hate war, I still think we should pray for our troops and care about them. You should care about them because they are trying to make the US secure. If it weren't for the US troops, a lot of us would be dead right now. If no one stood up for freedom, then we would probably be under the control of the Nazis right now.

And like I said, as much as I hate war, I still think we should pray for the troops and we should never stop caring for all they have done for this country.

IN RESPONSE TO JOHNO:

We are at war with TERRORISM. We should care for our troops because they are fighting terrorists.

I hate war. I hate anything that has to do with death of the fellow man, but, we, the Americans, are at great risk to another terrorist attack. Terrorists are all over this country and waiting to STRIKE. This war was put in place to keep YOU safe.

AYISHA W:

Maybe some people in the World Trade Center on the morning of 9/11 thought that they didn't need troops to secure their freedom. Maybe one of them thought they could take care of his/her self. Then, it was too late to do anything about it.

Our troops are fighting so we don't have to deal with the problem.

Oh, and I do believe the sleeper cells that are here in America are wanting to take our freedom away. They are willing to let themselves die to kill us, the American citizens. I just think it is sad that 9/11 didn't wake America up to the threat that terrorists have placed on our freedom.

these people that you do not care about are over there fighting for your right to wake up as a free man...if you dont care about that then get off your own ungratful *** and go over there yourself..better yet why dont you just take up residance somewhere else..people like you are the ones destroying america..more so then any war.

Hmmm. If you don't like 'government by the people' maybe you should move to a totalitarian regime where your not caring would be an asset as a citizen.

Here, we are obligated to care in order to continue to earn our rights and privileges as citizens.

You must be 12 or live under a rock.People dying for nothing is a tragedy no matter where it happens. If you are not 12 you need a class in empathy.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you: Jesus Christ and the American G.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.
God bless our troops.
