I know there are websites that measure the speed of your connection to the internet, but what is the best way to measure the throughput between two computers on a network?

I use Sisoft Sandra for this, but after a while, I just place a 100MB file on the server to test LAN speed, copying the file to/from LAN and just measure the time manually

you can always ping, but that just gives you measures of time.

to ping:

start > run.. > type in "cmd" press enter

command prompt aka dos window pops up

type in :

ping ____________

put the ip address in _________

to find out ip you can type in:

ipconfig
and press enter

for example me pinging yahoo, i could type in www.yahoo.com, so my command is:

ping www.yahoo.com

me pinging network computer:

ping 192.168.1.2

---------or-----------

you can see the connection speed in task manager:

ctrl+alt+del
select task manager
click networking tab

If its a LAN, its almost certainly 100Mbit

install an ftp server and download something big from it on another pc
