It is only at night and she cries for about an hour and half every night. During the day she is fine but at night she will cry until she falls asleep and then sleep almost all night. She is 6 weeks old, does anyone know anything that will help?!?! She is on this formula now by Enfamil called Nutramigen. I dont like it and I dont think she does either, it doesnt seem like its filling her up. Any suggestions?!?!

My little man had colic very bad too. He cried all through the day and off and on all night long. I thought i was going out of my mind with him fussing so much and the only way i could get him to sleep was with his belly on mine. I talked to the pediatrition about it and he recommended a product called "gripe water". I could not find it at walmart but they did carry it at Kroger... if you have one. I am sure most pharmacy's carry it and it is all natural. It is a bit pricy (about 10 dollars) but was well worth it. If i gave him the gripe water too often, i did notice a bit of diaper rash, that was the only down side. Another product that helped besides gas drops at every feeding and the gripe water, was switching formulas. After going through about 5 different brands and types, we found that Enfamil Gentlease was the best!! No more colic, hardly any gas, and i very rarely have to give him gas drops or gripe water. (i usually only use it now for hiccups). That formula has been so wonderful and the wic program here allows me to get it without a dr's note! Good luck.

Hi, my baby used to have some colic at night too and we figured she had some gas issues and we change to free lactose formula (Enfamil sells one) After that the colci was gone for good. Also my pd prescribed a medication called Simethicone or Mylicom that come in drops. You add 3 to 4 drops 3 times a day to the formula and it also helped A LOT. Good Luck

My son was similar. There's a book and a DVD called Happiest Baby on the Block that really helped us.
It basically talks about the "missing fourth trimester" for babies. Basically, the first three months of their lives, it says that you should try to re-create the womb as much as possible using the following "5 S's"':

1. Shhing...basically lots of white noise like they had before they were born. It is assumed that babies like quiet, but quiet is actually not what is normal for them at all and they sleep best with basic commotion around them. You can do the shhing yourself or I think they have white noise machines or music or something

2. Swaddling - they are used to TIGHT spaces, so the tighter you can wrap him up in a blanket to sleep, the better.

3. Side positioning - when holding him, I would hold him stomach to my stomach rather than facing her up.

4. Swinging - some kind of constant movement to put him to sleep - rocking, swaying, whatever work for the two of you.

5. Sucking - pacifier, bottle, nursing, whatever really helps to comfort them.

What also helped us was a combination of these in the laundry room with the dryer on. Sounds weird, but it really helped! Good luck, and just remember. If nothing else, it will pass soon!

My son had colic when he was a baby and let me tell you, I know what you are going through. Colic is when they get too much gas built up and they get cramps (at least, that is what I was told). What worked for my son was to lay him with a hot water bottle near his stomach or under the blankets with him. It seems to settle his tummy and he slept a lot better. It also seemed to help to switch him to a soy-based formula instead of milk-based. Good Luck!

Another thing to try is to put a small amount of baby cereal in with the milk. Not very much (so it stays runny like milk), but a small amount will also help full them up. You can also try feeding cereal with a spoon (usually only takes 1-2 small spoons to help them feel fuller.

While I can't give much advice about what formula works best, I can tell you what I did with my son, who is now almost 7. I used to run the vacuum and I would also put him in his seat on top of the dryer. Strange I know, but the noise and vibration would help calm him down. Like I said, it has been almost 7 years so maybe they have come up with better ways now but it worked great for me.

You go to the store and buy 'essence of peppermint'. After you return home; set a sterile bottle to the side, place some water in a small pot, heat the water and add the peppermint. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Once the 'peppermint water' is at room temperature - pour it into the sterile bottle and give to the baby.
My mother did this with one of her grand daughters, I did this with one of my children and with one of my grand daughters.
The 'old fashioned' remedies always work the best.

Honestly there's not much you can do about it. There are gas drops you can buy off the drug store shelf but I absolutely cannot vouch that they worked when my son had it.

She will outgrow it, typically at around 3 months or so and it's not at all uncommon, but yea, it's rough on you as well as her while it's going on.

Read up on and then ask your doctor about probiotics. New studies show that they may be the "cure" for many infants with colic.
