Any piercing opens up a pathway for infection, but these places are especially dangerous.
The toung is in a the mouth which is dark and moist - the prime place for an infection or bacteria to grow. Plus, with the consumption of food and drink, objects or matierals can easily get caught on the tougue ring ripping it, and opening it up for bacteria.
Eyebrow rings are less dangerous than a tongue ring, but still can cause scrapes and cuts on the eyelid, which is not good for the eye and can cause soreness and yes, more infection.
Nose rings can only become infected if not put in, cleaned or maintained correctly, but are really gross if the person gets a cold.
Nipple rings can get infected like any other piercing, but because of their placement run risk for damaging the breast permanaly, which for women is not good when it comes to milk prodution.
Each type of piercing has its own risks, and the type of person to get those piercings hopefully understands that. As for being uneducated, and lack of good taste - is a matter of oppinion. Personally I think that anyone willing to put themselves in danger for complecations such as HIV or infection care more about how they look than their health. THAT is being stupid.

I wanted a tongue ring for ever, but one of my friends got it first and I back out - couldn't bring myself to have to rinse anytime I put something in my mouth - listerine no less - yuk!
Eyebrow, I'm considering, but again, had a friend do it and it got ripped out - having second thoughts.
I also wanted a nose ring, just a little stud, but my bf says that it's only for fat/ugly girls so they can try and draw the attention away from their 'ugliness' - kind of a stupid thing to say but I spent the last couple of months taking note of people with nose rings and my bf is right! ( I have yet to see a 'hot' girl with a nose ring)
Nipple rings - I would NEVER. My best friend had it done and I was there for it holding her hand while they did the piercing, yeah, just seeing it was enough to make me cringe, plus now her nipples are really funny looking.
I have my navel pierced, had actually. And now it looks like there a little hole where the piercing used to be, it's healing and the hole is slowly going away but it's been a couple months.
I just think it's a personal preference. My sis had snake bites for a few months...Maybe it's a phase that people go through. Who knows. But just because they do it doesn't mean they are stupid. Remember we all have different tastes so if you don't like it don't get it, plain and simple. No one should be judged just because they have a piercing that you don't like.

Well I am with you on the nipple, tongue and eyebrow rings. But I have a nose ring and I think its really cute. Everyone in college seems to have one. I think you can have whatever piercing you want, but its the way people dress and act that gives them a bad look. I have an industrial and tragus but I dress nice and have a high education.

actually i have a very good education, and i have my nose pierced.
i dont see the difference between that and ears.
i think tongue rings come with the stigma that if a girl has one shes a skank.... but thats just a generalization, not always true
eyebrow rings arent my taste but hey its their body
nipple rings do tend to make you look like you have two nipples on one breast if its cold outside and your nipples are hard
but i think the ones that are in need of a good education are the ones that judge people for what they do with their own body... especially things that dont harm anybody or anything (tattoos piercings etc)

I think now a days kids try to be different yet end up looking like everybody else...
I remember when you had to go to head shops or piercing parlors to buy body jewelry. Now they sell it in shopping malls at Hot Topic and Spencers Gifts.
I still love my punk rock, but grew out of the colored hair, piercing thing years ago...

Well i think if you judge people by body jewelry then you may not be well educated. Most of the people i know whith body jewelry are in college and on their way to good things. You can have an opinion on body jewelry but to judge others is just wrong.

I agree completely. I was thinking just the other day, "Are these young people going to remove their visible (mostly facial) rings when they have serious jobs?" Would I want a surgeon with several visible rings operating on me? Would I want to go to a lawyer and see rings? Would rings be appropriate for a server in a 4-star restaurant?
I think not!

I think there cool. Everybody has a diff. opinion on good taste. I had eyebrow, lip, ears. For sum ppl it changes there appearance from regular to extreme. It doesnt make them any less educated or anything, its just how they feel and they want to do. I liked having my piercings. It doesnt hurt to be open minded. You dont have to live according to other ppls standards or conform to them.

That is so stupid. Fashion has nothing at all to do with intelligence, breeding, or education.
I have my tongue pierced, nose pierced, nipples pierced as well as a few other things and have 15 tattoos.
I have a degree, and a good job.
Maybe you should have a more open mind, and not judge people for what piece of metal is pierced through their skin...but what comes out of their mouth and actions.
