both, you want to keep the memory alive but you want the person to rest in peace also

Let them RIP but keep their memory alive within yourself. Some people want closure so to constantly have reminders of a person isn't always good. Remember, people grieve differently so letting someone RIP is usually the way to go.

It really depends on the memory. Sometimes you have to rip it all up.
But, I'd go for keeping the memories alive.

"RIP" is the most common thing to say. It is used a lot on the gravestone.

"Keep the memory alive" could be used as a Subtitle.
Many families will use that phrase on the memorial cards handed at the visitations/service.
