i was just wondering about the effects of caffeine during pregnacy? Does it effect fertility and is it worse if you consume more caffeine during the begining of the pregnacy or during the end?

I personally gave it up, I am addicted to Diet Coke, but why chance it. I quit while pregnant with both my daughters, I don't think caffeine is that great for anyone let alone a growing baby. Don't get me wrong I got right back on it after I had them, or when you are not nursing, the caffeine will go to the baby. I just drank a lot of water, its good for both of you. I put a little lemon juice in the water for flavor and its only 9 months, not that long anyway, I did not want to second guess if it was the pop if anything was wrong, I hate guilt, but there is also a lot worse you could do than drink pop, I guess its a personal choice.

People are gonna be mad a t me but Ive been drinking caffeine all the way through, at first I didnt know I was pregnant I drank a lot of it, then when I found out I cut it down to a cup of coffeee in the morning (smalll) and tea at 3pm. I work a lot and without it I cannot stay awake to make money for my baby. I started an experiment this week to cut back, and only had coffee in the morning, I was worried that I couldnt drive home and stay awake so I had to have tea again. Its not great but in small doses it should be ok. i am 19 weeks with a perfect little boy. I will give it up all together hopefully towards the end.

Well I do know that during pregnancy you shouldn't consume more than 2 C of any kind of caffeine product per day. It doesn't vary throughout the pregnancy. Here's a neat little fact(I found this one out in a trivia question)- If you eat 1 apple first thing in the morning, it gives you the same effect as caffeine!! And at least this way it isn't hurting the baby at all!!! I've tried it and it really works! The best thing though is to ask your OB these questions, they really want to hear the questions and are more than happy to help you out! Good luck!

I heard too much caffeine during pregnancy can cause a miscarriage. So I avoid chocolate, coffee, and anything with caffeine in it. I'd feel guilty if I have a lil taste of it. Although it is ok to have a lil caffeine everyday. I just can't do it! But it surely does not cause any birth defects

My first pregnancy I didn't drink ANY caffinated drinks. And I ended up sicker than sick. Almost had congestive heart failure... I was headed down that path. Second pregnancy I drank a cup of coffee every morning and had THE best preganacy. A little bit won't hurt. Look at our moms... some moms of us late 20's early 30 somethings smoked, drank, did drugs, ate whatever they wanted and we turned out okay. I AM NOT CONDONING DRUG USE OR SMOKING/DRINKING WHILE PREGNANT... just using it as an example. I would never do that sort of thing while carrying a baby. (i wouldn't smoke/do drugs for all the tea in China)

Excessive caffeine intake can cause lower birth weight, which could mean that the baby did not have the chance to receive optimal nutrition in the womb. A small daily amount is allowable, ask the doctor.

As with any stimulant, it is best to cut out caffeine altogether. However, there have been no studies to show that small amounts of caffeine are harmful (under 4 cups of coffee/day). If you are concerned, just ask your Doctor what they recommend for you.

Too much caffeine has been shown to cause low birth weights. However, in moderation it shouldn't cause any problems.

I drank one can of Coca-Cola everyday during my pregnancy. My daughter weighed 9# 8oz. No low birth weight there.
