According to our court system...Cocal-Cola. A woman who tried to sell Coke's patented recipe gets 20 years while a rapist won't get that much time and a president who lies to take his country to war gets a vacation. Is this a whacky world or what?

Sorry about the sentencing mistake: It was 8 years not 20. (One of her partners got 5) I'm NOT saying she isn't guilty of a crime worthy of punishment. I am asking for a comparison of punishments to crimes.

that article says that she only got 5 years. and she'll probably get out early (but rapists get out early too).

it just shows that the people with the money have the power.

If it was in Coca cola's business interest to convict rapists, then they'd be getting 20 years too.

Anyone read the entire article? The defendant had previous history for perjury, fraud and attempting to defraud, the unemployment system. This was lied about on the stand, and defence stated that the defendant had never had a criminal charge and didn't have a criminal past. She got eight years because the judge thought that she deserved it. He was correct. As far as murder, those defendants normally receive harsher sentences. Rape - sadly, those do not. War is not normally a court issue except for war criminals, who do receive stiffer penalties. Some as stiff as execution. The article states reasons, the rest of this question is moot.

It's not just the states that it happens in. I live in Canada and I know of case where someone stole a truck and then caused an accident causing death to the other driver, and he only does 3 years and gets out. Where as someone who robbed a store and didn't kill anyone is doing 5 years. The thing that gets me is where is the real justice? how can they give someone less time after killing someone and give someone who robbed a store more time. Where do they come up with there sentencing??

Not exactly a question, but a very good point (aside from the fact that you put the wrong number of years...) Our court system IS rather mixed up, and so is our president these days. I can't wait till 2008 when I will be able to vote.
Thanks for sharing :D

Where's the murder senario?... Did you tie it in with the president leading people into war?

I agree with you; I just think that murders usually get longer.

(You made me thirsty for a Coke).
