No matter what oath they take they all contain the same phrase "against all enemies, foreign and domestic".
They aren't protecting us from the DOMESTIC enemies.

No, the Republicans (including Bush) have been pretty hung on altering the Constitution since they gained office. Mainly the separation of church and state part.

Our foreign enemies haven't exactly tried to change the Constitution. They were pissed off about our past foreign policy strategies... not the foundation of our government. So, attacking them doesn't really mean that our politicans are upholding the oath with the whole war thing going on now.

The military doesn't take that oath.

The military oath is :

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

The National Guard oath is :

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of (STATE NAME) against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Governor of (STATE NAME) and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to law and regulations. So help me God.
