I received an email claiming that I won a lottery due to a ticket being attached to my email address. Claims to be ran by Microsoft. It asking for a lot of personal information to claim it. Is it legitimate? How can I find out?

You don't get anything for nothing, it's a scam do not answer do not give personal information.The following sites give more information.

Scam.

Do a search on "lottery" and you will see how many dozen people ask the same question every day.

It is illegal for a "for profit" company like Microsoft to conduct a lottery.

Get rid of it, it is a scam, DO NOT give personal information over the internet to no body you do not know

It is illegitimate. Ignore it, and report it to Microsoft. To do this, send a copy of the e-mail to Microsoft.
Install McAfee SiteAdvisor if you are unsure about these sort of things.

Yes but it's bogus and they use it to send spam to unsuspected people.
