I could say family, I could say professors at my current college, I could say Hurricane Katrina, my desire to further my own education

Should I pull up some facts about the school to make it look like I know history on the place?

Also, HOW LONG SHOULD IT BE? It's an online application that shows only a sentence but when I hit enter I find that it can go as long as I want it. It's only for an application to be ACCEPTED by the school though. I'm not sure what they are looking for.

Words of advise?

the truth... make your voice stand out. everyone is probably going to say the same bull to try and impress them. Be the person that tells them why you really want to go there.

EDIT: I think that a paragraph of about 4-5 sentences should be fine for this question... unless the heading about this section says anything about "essay questions"..does it?

many things can influence yourdecisision to apply to that particluar college. Sit down and really think why you applied and want to go there and how is or maybe different from the current colege you're at now.

Some things could be the college culture itself, the size of the school, the size of the campus and the individual classes. The program you want to study may be in the top 25 or top 50/100, or whatever. The college's proximity to city life and your permanent home. The proximity to city life is really important, because you'll have the opportunity to explore a different city (other than your own) and if you're not from the city, then thisis your chance. Again, there are multiple reason other than impressing the application reviewers themselves. There can be a family history there that may have led you to that college or it could be a different atmosphere and culture that you want to explore. College years are the most important years of your life. Some go to colleges based solely on their academics and some go because of that and also because of the extra amenities the town/neighboring city has to offer....your social life. Your social life during college is highly important because during your college years, this is a period of personal and educational growth, where you are trying to find your true dislikes and likes, your personal preferences, so that you can shape or mold into the person you plan to be, whether it's directly related to your future profession or just personal self.

So dig deep and be creative. giving them the same answers that everyone gives, isn't gonna to hit it.

If they have a particular major that you're interested in, then mention that. It'll show you did your research. That's probably the number one reason, something to do with the variety of courses they offer. Also, if they have clubs you're interested in, etc.

Don't complain (like don't say, the professors at my current college suck so that's why I'm applying here)

Don't say your family chose for you (you'll sound like you're unable to make decisions on your own)

I'd say make it between a paragraph and a page, no more no less.

The course(s) they run are exactly what you want to study. It has a good reputation in a particular area eg Bournemouth university in the UK has a good reputation for Media Studies. Hope this helps.
