its totally up to you. when you feel it is time to stop then stop dont let people criticize your decisions either. i am glad you decided to breastfeed to begin with. but dont let anyone tell you to stop earlier or later than you want, try setting a goal i goal for 6 months and did 6 1/2 for less engorgement. the 2 weeks was breastfeeding morning night and midday and then less as time went on.

Your baby will let you know when it's time. WIth my first, she lost interest when I was pregnant with her sister. The second baby is 18 months and shows no signs of stopping! You can breastfeed while baby is teething, after 12 months, after 24 months, when baby is taking solids and a cup, after baby learns to walk and talk, while pregnant and after pregnancy (tandem nursing). Those are all of the silly myths that I can think of. I hope that you'll listen to your baby and keep right on nursing. Nursing toddlers are special, and that relationship can't be duplicated. If you decide to wean him before he's ready, then know that any milk he received is better than none at all.

Some people are suggesting that you ask your pediatrician about this. I recommend that you do some reading instead. Most physicians know almost about lactation, the breastfeeding relationship and parenting.

Kudos for breastfeeding!

Nurse as long as you like. the yank Academy or Pediatrics recommends a minimum of one 365 days and the international wellness enterprise recommends a minimum of two years. the two a sort of wellness companies state that a baby weaned formerly 2 years is at an boost risk of ailment

Everyone stops at different times. Do what is best for you and your baby.

I think all babies should be breastfed for at least 6 months - 1 year. Then an additional year of night time feedings is fine. Most women stop too soon because they don't have enough support or are not educated enough about the benefits of pumping/expressing their milk.

Good luck!

As far as I know there is no set date marked on a calendar that says you must stop breast-feeding. Most pediatricians will recommend that you wean at about 12 months, but If you are comfortable with nursing, able to do so, and your baby is eating enough breast-milk, baby food, or solids to maintain his/her health, then it really is up to you. I didn't wean my son until he was 16 months old due to a severe milk allergy, and he wouldn't drink enough soy-milk to get all of the nutrients that he needed. He is now 2 and a half , drinks soy-milk from a cup, and eats like a bear...

If your pediatrician group has a lactation expert whom you are comfortable with, take their advice. They are usually very supportive and give the best advice.
Since my kid wasnt gaining weight well and I wasnt working and willing to breast feed as long as necessary they advised me until 18 months. I am glad I did even though it got frustrating at points and all my friends had done it until just 4, 5 months..because we had to travel long distance and my kid couldnt get vaccination on time and even though my kid was eating like a normal 18 month old, my milk was like an immunizer.
I am pregnant again & this time I will do as is required by the kid's weight gaining capacity, my pediatrician's advice and my ability to do so. So dont let guilt, other's advices and paranoia rule your mind..do what your instincts and your child's health demands. Good luck.

You can stop breastfeeding whenever you think it is time. It is up to you and baby. I breastfed for 2 weeks then switched to bottle feeding. It is your decision.

When ever you feel like it. You can breastfeed til they are 3 years old if you want. I breastfed for 12 months exclusively, and would of went longer if not for a medical problem that caused me to have to stop. It's a personal decision between you and your Husband.
