Antiseptics and disinfectants are used differently. Generally, an antiseptic is a topical medicine applied to a wound to kill bacteria and/or viruses, while disinfectants are chemicals used to clean the surfaces of a room and kill bacteria and/or viruses. Both types of products may contain the same ingredients, but usually disinfectants are much stronger because they can include highly toxic chemicals that cannot be safely applied to a person's skin.

Antiseptic is a milder form that does not kill viruses. It only kills off bacteria... Disinfectant is very strong, and it kills 99.9% of all microbes.
