Since when is the government supposed to get involved in capitalism? I don't remember reading anything about that in the U.S. Constitution.
I agree, I think this country is becoming more of an oligarchy than a true republic or even a democracy. Money rules, not the people. If the people truly ruled, we wouldn't be in this war, we'd be buying cheap domestic oil, there would be no big business monopolies, schools would be under the control of local districts only, abortion would be illegal, and welfare would be the responsibility of the churches and local communities.
I think we are being manipulated to pay these high gas prices; terrorism could be avoided by not buying oil from Middle-Eastern countries, since this is obviously where they're getting their funding. Cut off their funding! We need to start buying our own oil from Texas and Alaska. We've got plenty - we just need to use it.

the reason gas prices are so high is because oil companies haven't built a refinery in 30 years. The reason for that is that there are so many environmental regulations involved, it's cheaper to maintain the old ones. Problem is, even if try to maintain a 30 year old factory, **** is still gonna break down.

FACT — DESPITE PAST RHETORIC, FOREIGN OIL DEPENDENCE HAS INCREASED: President Bush has pledged to reduce our energy dependence in every State of the Union he has delivered since taking office. At the same time, the United States has become increasingly dependent on foreign oil, from 58 percent of oil consumed in the U.S. in 2000 to 70 percent in September 2006. U.S. dependence on OPEC nations for oil imports “has risen to its highest level in 15 years.” By focusing on expanding domestic exploration, he perpetuates our dependence on oil.

I'm buying a hybrid car, screw the high gas prices. I wonder if they will just go higher when people start buying more fuel effecient cars?

it's simpler than that. it's the oil companies letting us know that they can make us bend over and take it anytime the want.
