Howard, Rollins, Spellman and Morehouse are the better HBCUs. Most of the other HBCUs are not as good academically as these schools or other state universities. However, they do offer a unique learning experience and an environment that allows certain students to prosper.

My advice would be to visit Jackson State, one of the better HBCUs and a non-HBCU public university in your state and see where you feel most comfortable. Also think about which of those schools will prepare you for life after college.
