yes its over as far as the book that were made...but there is actually an "encyclopedia" on it and Lord of the Ring trilogy is actually a couple pages in the whole "encyclopedia"...its actually very interesting and entertaining. It explains where Sauron, Saruman, Gandalf, Elves...come from and where they are going at the end of the third one.

Well yeah, the Lord of the Rings trilogy is over, there were only three of them. However, we'll have to see if anything comes out of The Hobbit. I wish Peter Jackson was willing to do it, but oh well. You can always look up this terrible cartoon version of The Hobbit, if you like the mythology so much that you're willing to undergo extreme torture. I don't think they'll make a movie of The Silmarillion, that's way too long, and not connected enough. However, as someone else mentioned, you can read The Children of Hurin, Christopher Tolkien's compilation of his father's notes and short stories into the story of the children of Hurin.

The hobbit is not a continuation but a stand alone prequel of the lord of the rings. The trilogy is over but the story of middle earth still continues after that. Try looking for the books of Arda the mythical world Mr. Tolkien wrote where the lord of the rings setting is in. You should be able to find a small amount of stories after the lord of the rings.

If you want a continuation of the story, go read The Lord of the Rings. The Appendices adds a lot more to the story. Some of it made the movies, but there is a ton more to the story. The go read The Silmarillion. You can also read the Histories of Middle Earth (12 volumes) and Unfinished Tales. I also hear the Children of Hurin is pretty good. But as far as movies go, its the trilogy and not much else.

BTW, The Hobbit is a prequel and not a continuation of the Lord of The Rings.

The people in Hollywood are discussing only things that happened before the trilogy took place. I've been on Yahoo!Movies and I've noticed they're talking both about making The Hobbit and a Lord of the Rings Prequel, aka what the heck everyone was doing before the trilogy took place. Unlike the Hobbit, it might focus more on the people that were actually in the Lord of the Rings, such as Aragorn.

The studio and Peter Jackson couldn't agree on compensation to make the Hobbit, so that project looks dead for now. I've heard rumors of a script for the Silmarillion but I'd be surprised if they make it. Tolkein's son is finishing a book about more info, by completing notes left by his father. Your best bet is to just read the supplemental books, especially the simarillion.

yes thats the whole point of a trilogy. Its only three parts. There were only three books written by tolkien. I doubt very much they would dare making a fourth film that was written by someone else.
