Of course people will still care, because of all the other fine drivers. Removing the most popular person from any sport would hurt tv ratings though.

People cared about it before and people will watch after she is gone. I watch IRL because I am a race fan. I am not a big Danica fan but I am interested to see a woman make it in a male dominated sport. Don't forget Andretti and Foyt were household names before she came along. Danica is just a race car driver. Smokin hot sure but no different than the pretty boys of NASCAR.

I think Danica-Mania was invented to draw the NASCAR crowd to ICS, and they did a somewhat-OK job of it. I, personally, don't think the two crowds mix very well.

Danica instigated a lot of interest and I think most of the "gawkers" will vacate as soon as the "centerfold" attitude wanes (no more scanty-clad shots of her spread-eagled across a car); but I also think some of the acolytes will remain (and ICS will be a few fans heavier.)

Another thing that will keep fans' interests up: Quit whining about reunification. The only thing that will change open wheel racing is the fans. If you want to see your series thrive, then you must attend and consume!

does anyone care about the IRL with danica patrick????? Other that the Indy 500 where she won't win once again no one watches it. She is simply another hyped sports figure who has done nothing much like Anna Kornikova who never won a tournement. This year 3 women drivers will start the race, one who has been racing much longer than DP on the circuit....its the INDY 500....people watch this then the sport disappears til next May.

Columbus, Ohio has fans because Honda's car plant near there brings drivers around to sign autographs, since they all drive Honda's and Honda pushes being an autoracing fan as part of company spirit. Also Rahal Letterman team is located near there (Hillliard), and Sam Hornish and Sarah Fisher are from that general area of the country.

I care for IRL not at all with her and the Fisher gal in it and hardly did before actually, it brings down the competition and excitement. This is why Nascar will always be better.

I've always followed the Indy 500 since I can remember. The only 500 Race I remember missing was when I was in Canada having an operation.

I have seen a couple of races in which she has driven in and, to be quite honest, she doesn't impress me much as a driver. Its not because she is a woman, but simply it just seems that the other drivers are just much better than she is. Okay, she looks good, but the last time I looked, great looks don't win races.

I don't ever see her winning a race, and I don't ever see her racing in the NASCAR circuit.
