guess they don't want to put any more cash on the electricity bill as the people who own the house are dead

They have to keep everything at a crime scene exactly the way it is. If there is a piece of evidence that is sensitive to light and they turn the lights on they might compromise the scene. Also what if something was caused by an electrical short and they flip the switch and make the situation worse? They have to secure the scene before they can touch anything. I think it's funny the some people think you are talking about the lights in the lab. They must not watch the show.

this question is always asked.......but they don't want to compromise anyprints that may be on light switched before the items are dusted. Second they notice things in nooks and cranny's better shinning the flashlights and finally the stuff they use to look for blood spatter requires a dark room with a special light.

I have wondered this myself. You would think that turning on the lights would help them find the evidence easier. And how is it that they know exactly where to look in the room to find the tiniest hair or speck of evidence? It must be just another TV miracle!

I think it's so they can concentrate on one detail at a time. They use their flashlights to look at each small section of the room and don't get distracted by anything else in the room. That's my guess.

If you mean at a crime scene then it`s because they haven`t dusted for prints yet and maybe the switch will trigger something that was rigged.
