confused, i got married about a year ago and i took sometime to go to the social security office and finally got my last name changed. so my ss says my married name but my id doesn't. so should i be signing everything as my married name or my old name. i have been using both because some things they want an id for. i've been really busy working so have not been able to get the dmv. i am planning on going soon. my checks have also been comming in on my name and not my married name. should i just explain to whom ever that i haven't gotten my id changed but my name has been with ss? my manager said she really doesn't need a id to verify, she said just tell her when i do need the name changed! help!

i have been married for almost a year. I use both my maiden name and my married name for different things. I have things that are in my maiden name that would take forever to change over and it is easier to leave alone. My license won't be changed till later this year either, why pay to have them changed then have to pay again to have them renewed.

But I did keep my maiden name when I changed my name on at the social security office. This has made things easier. I didn't do the hyphation thing though.

You need to get everything in matching order. Make time to get to the DMV, even if it involves leaving work an hour early one day. There will be a time when your mis-matched identities will be a problem, so get it fixed first.

Your bank just needs your new ID to change the name on your bank accounts. So go to the DMV first. Your boss is willing to make the change today -- but if your bank account isn't updated first, you may have problems depositing or cashing checks. Sooo.... DMV, Bank, Work.

That's going to end up being a problem for you eventually if you don't either change your name completely or go back to your maiden name. Just decide which you want to keep and take a day off of work to change everything with the DMV, bank, and anything else necessary.

You should probably take the time to get your name changed on everything. Remember, for some things you'll need a certified copy of your marriage license. It's important to be consistent otherwise, things could start getting really messed up. I took a whole day off just to run around and get everything changed, it helped me.

In the here and now it is entirely up to you. Many people don't even change their name with social security. You can do whatever pleases you.

Your legal name is your married name, so you are going to have to change your checks and drivers licese. The longer you wait, the more your credit and taxes can get screwed up.

You're creating unnecessary confusion. Merely have e/thing be what you wish it to be. If you wish to use your marriage name, than change it on e/thing, and be done with it.
