I just moved into a new place and when you are running the water and pull up the shower thing half the flow remains at the bath faucet and the rest goes to the shower. The pressure is low, and I imagine that is due to half the water running out of the faucet still. What can I do?

The diverter is not sealing properly. It is easier to replace the spout than try to fix the seal. Look under the spout where it meets the wall. If there is a slot, there is an allen screw that holds the spout on. Remove the screw and "twist and pull" the spout off. If no slot, it screws on. Turn the spout in a counter-clockwise direction and unscrew it. Take the spout with you so you get the right one. If screwed on, buy a roll of teflon tape to apply to the threads before installing the new spout. Water does not need to be turned off as long as you don't bump a faucet handle while working.

Sounds like your shower lever is not pulling up completely. With the water off, spray the lever with WD-40 or other lubricant (if in a bind, use cooking spray). Turn shower on and off without the water turned on. See if you feel it giving more as you lubricate the lever. Then turn the water back on and give it a try.

If that doesn't work, you will need to replace the shower faucet.

The diverter has gone bad. You can buy a whole new spout with diverter at the hardware store. Simply unscrew the old spout and replace it with the new.
