Could happen, depends how things unfold. A few trends show that the world could be becoming more peaceful.
Culturally, there's not so much difference between nations now, that leads to xenophobic warmongering. When people across the world from Indonesia to Iran (yes, Iran), from China to Canada drink Coca-Cola and Starbucks, eat Big Macs and fries, surf the internet and watch DVDs... it becomes difficult to claim that 'foreigners' are fundamentally different to us.
Also, as more nations trade with each other, the less economic interest they have in going to war.
Also, the internet means that people can connect with similar people from around the world, and build communites not limited to geography - they have less connection with the fortunes of their home country.
Also, wars are getting less bloody (compare WWII with Vietnam with Iraq) and less frequent.
Then again, there are several threats facing us, not limited to overpopulation, the effects of unregulated globalisation, global warming, environmental damage, depletion of resources, and increased proliferation of WMDs, which could prevent all nations joining together in peaceful commonwealth and instead cause the end of civilisation.
In summary, I don't know.

No. Peace is a none existant state of the world. Peace in itself is only used as something to strive for and to give us hope. But I'm afraid in fact that there is no such thing as peace, because at no time will everyone be happy with everyone else and themselves.

Peace is a state of mind and until humankind evolves to a higher vibration and decides to shed its prejudices and intolerance we will exist in a state of violence and turmoil. Buddhism teaches ways to end and/or reduce physical suffering by letting go of the ego and physical restriants. The ego exists to preserve this physical attachment and all the attendant whims and cravings. Until we let go of our egos and concentrate our energies on more important spiritual needs and pursuits we will continue to suffer in a world full of violence and greed.

There is no peace without conflict. The best defense is a strong offense.

Every since the beginning of mankind, there has been a war of some sort somewhere on the planet. I wish it would happen, but definitely not in mine or my childrens' lifetime.

No, not completely. Nor is it emotionally healthy to try; the instinct toward violence is 1/4 of the Id. We can't completely suppress that anymore than we could completely suppress our sexuality.

I don't think it will ever be possible. There are to many bad people in the world and people aren't tolerant enough of each other
