If the chip is not in the wiper path area, is not too large, and has not been exposed to substancial moisture chip repair is a proven remedy that is inexpensive. But time is important. An old chip can't be repaired with long lasting results.

Some types of chips can be professionally repaired for a very small sum of money. It doesn't hurt to go around and get estimates. The only thing you'd be out would be your time and gas.
Be aware of some shops who install glass at very, very low rates. If they chip the edge of it, the molding will cover it but it will radiate a crack from that chip point, which may or may not have been accidently placed there.

I say yes, because insurance will cover it for you and not raise your rates. I had a rock chip my windshield one time and i didn't think nothing of it....the next day there was a 4 inch crack starting from the chip. i figured i will go get it fix afterschool, after asking advise from some of my friends, well afterschool i noticed that there was another 2 inches added to the crack. So, depending on the weather the chip can cause a crack and spread fast. BUt i've also have a few rock chip on my windshield that hasn't even begun to look like it's cracking yet that's been on my car a few years. So, the reason why insurance will cover the fix is because it is much less expensive than replacing the whole windshield. But i will tell you that's it's not nice to have a crack in your windshield, it makes even a nice car look like crap.

It's worth a word with your insurer or at least a check of your policy.
You might find that a small chip can be repaired (cleaned and filled with a special clear resin) at no cost to you whereas you may have to make a significant contribution to the cost of a replacement screen if the chip develops into a crack.

yehh you've got to, have you not heard all the adverts?
if there's a chip and you're going along a highway, it can all shatter in on you.
that's what happened to my dad, he was in the fast lane and the windowscreen shattered all over him.
if there's a chip you can just simply get it repaired, it's much cheaper than replacing the whole windscreen.

First look carefully at your insurance policy. Most let you repair chips for nothing (Autoscreen, etc) but charge you £50 or more if the windscree needs replacing. Yes - get it repaired if your policy allows.

For a small chip, many of them can be repaired without having to change out the windshield. If you don't have it fixed, there is a high possibility that it could spiderweb out, and you'll have to get a new windshield.

definitely get it repaired asap. a chip can turn into a crack in no time and then the only way to repair it is to replace the entire thing.

Chips can turn into cracks and can cover your entire windscreen over time. Just watch it. If it never changes, it is probably fine. If it gets larger or cracks start to form, it is best to replace it.
