I've figured out a formula, and I want to know which academic journal I should submit it to. I also would like to know if there are any programs out there that are good for writing alot of formulas and showing steps.

If this formula is legit, then get it patented before you publish it. In order to publish it, you need to come up with a lot of proof and derivation, falsifiability tests etc. Check out the list of journals in the site below.

Here's a good place to start. Keep in mind most of the stuff here is highly theoretical. If you think you have a new formula for some geometric relationship or something at the highschool level, it won't fly. To comment on another entry, you cannot patent a mathematical formula.
