Try disconnecting all of your USB devices (printers, cameras, scanners etc) when booting up.

It could be a video card problem, but also could be bad RAM or a hard drive problem. When you wiped the drive, did you do a full format, or just quick?

The fact that it starts ok in safe mode is a good sign...

two things if your dad says it the video card then the monitor comes to paly thus then it can be the video card or the monitor first off i think it the hdd (hard disk drive) i would try putting a another hdd on that computer with 2000 or XP to see if the problem presists....if so then it not the hdd then it could be the mother board....i dont know but i dont think it the video card....still you never know....

I don't think it is Windows 2000 or Windows XP. It sounds like a hardware issue. Try swapping out your RAM or your video card or any other piece of hardware that you may have installed on your motherboard.

Your Dad is RIGHT !!!!!

The problem is the Video Card!!. I also experienced the same problem. and i had to upgrade my VGA card.

windows 2000 needs a VGA with at least memory of 16MB. to boot in normal mode. but with a lesser VGA u can boot in safe mode. in the other hand, XP can manage with a 4MB VGA card.(which i had earlier).

So Upgrade your VGA anyway.
