we use Enfamil Gentlease, and i make 32 oz at a time in a picther.. for the last couple of days i noticed it settling, it will have about a 1/2 an inch white coating on top of yellowish fomrula, it's not foam and formula is not expired.. what the heck?
and also, if anyone has ever used gentlease, and switched what did you switch to? i'm not sure my baby's tolerating it very well, but he's not allergic. Do newborns digest soy better? i think he may have some digestive problems. We'll see pediatrician on the 30th, i want answers from experienced mommys!

by the way for those of you who told me not to make this much.. Read your formula's can.. you can store it in refrigirator for 24 hours.. 32 oz goes in 12 at our house.. Thanks!

We started out making large batches and like you had settling. We found that it was really easier to make a bottle at feeding time and thus avoid that problem. We also switched to (OK pause a moment here the breast is best zealots will have a heart attack here) the Sam's Club formula. My happy, healthy, 8 mos old son has been on that for 7 mos. of his life, is on the growth median and has been sick once.
It is all about finding the balance that works in your house. I doubt it's sediment you may just need to mix it longer. That is one of the reasons we went to making bottles at each feeding

I have a 6 month old and I give him Soy Formula and it's been wonderful. I tried all sorts of different formulas when he was a new born and he seems to digest the soy so much better. He doesn't get fussy and is much happier. I also work with a girl who's son is also on the soy formula and claims the same as me. If you think the formula is bothering your baby's stomach, try the soy and see how your baby feels. I know my baby loved it and will refuse any other formula now. Also, I believe that it is very normal for some of the formula to settle at the bottom, every time I make a bottle and store it for later, I always have to shake it pretty well because I do notice the formula settling. Hope this helps!

I don't know the answer to your first question but my daughter was on gentlease and at first she tolerated it but than she began not to all of a sudden we switched her to the soy formula and she did much better (she wasn't allergic either) she just tolerated it better. I think a lot of people think that you have to have an allergy to milk to drink soy but thats not true. But before you switch formula you should always check with you pedi, my friend's daughter has digestive problems and her doctor has her use Enfamil Nutramigin and it has been the only one that her baby can tolerate(her pedi has put her daughter on 7 different kinds of formula).
Hope this helps.

I make a days worth all at once too. We don't use Gentlease though, we use Parent's Choice Soy (eczema aggravated by milk). It settles a bit too over time. I've found using hot water when you mix it helps a bit, and then remixing before distributing into bottles works to make sure every bottle has the same water to formula ratio which helps alleviate consitpation.

I trust soy. My son had problems digesting Milk so the doctor said try Soy. And it cleared him right up. So when I had my daughter I just started her on Soy and I had NO problems. Dont make the formula before. Do you want someone to make you coffee and put it in the refrigertor and warm it up when you want some or do you want fresh..Of course fresh..Stick with fresh.. Similac Isomil Advanced the pink can is the best. Good Luck Mama!

After mixing formula it should be used with 48hrs no longer than that. I don't know who gave you the idea of making so much at a time but it's not a good thing. It can go bad. Just ask you dr. But pour that stuff out and just make a bottle or two at a time.

Hope you're accepting answers from daddys too. Our 7 month old is also on the gentlease. We prepare his bottles individually. For six ounces we use six ounces of water and three scoops of formula. It's much easier to shake the individual bottles before warming them. We also sometimes add Mylicon to his bottles when he has gas and it works great. If he is especially gassy and fussy, we will give him the Mylicon directly. Hope this helps, good luck.

If it is settling at the bottom, maybe you should make it in a container that has a lid, kinda like the ones that have snap on tops, so that you can shake it before you pour it in the bottles. That is what I did with my kids when I did make their formula in bulk. As to switching formulas, I would talk to my Doctor and let them recommend a good one, if they want you to switch at all.

We tried the Gentlease with our daughter and she did not like it either, we switched her to soy at 2 months, at 6 months we decided to switch back to a milk based formula. We use Lacto-free and she is doing great with it. Many of the brand names offer the lacto-free, give it a try, mine did great with it.
