I am a teen myself and a bookworm. I read all the time so I know alot of good authors. J.K. Rowling, Garth Nix, try reading Tallahassee Higgins by Mary Downing Hahn.

That is really odd because studies show that young/teen boys are less inclined to read female protagonists and female authors. Part of JK Rowlings success is that she published under JK, and not JoAnne, thus not giving young male readers the 'turn off' of seeing a female author. Her main character is male. Young women will read either female or male protagonists so traditionally there has been less emphasis on what appeals to them.

I do!!!! I'm a teenager too, and I love Lord of the Rings. I think that's really cool that you're homeschooling. My dad homeschooled two of my brothers for a year. They really liked it. You might want to read the Hobbit first, if you haven't already read that. And historical fiction is always good. Try any of the books by Ann Rinaldi. They are AWESOME.
**Hope that your quest for books helps you find something good! And I hope that this helped.

Check out Patrick O'brian's "Master and Commander". The Russel Crowe movie was loosely based on this but didn't scratch the surface. This is fun to read and educational.

Of course it will all depend on Likes and Dislikes .I'm an old guy but certainly recommend Bernard Cornwell ...now I'm almost certain you'll enjoy .British Historical "Sharpe" stories ....or American Historical ........or third genre that I can only describe as "Early man"......
Oddly enough.there's an American Authoress of the same name .Patricia Cornwell .a must in forensic detective .
for those 2 authors ........................I would give 5 ***** Stars
