I believe that is normally done by taking one door and cutting it in half then drilling holes for both the top and bottom for the door handles. You just have to make sure there is a solid piece in the middle of the door where it needs to be cut into. Many doors are cut or trimmed so they fit door openings by cutting down the top or bottom. You have to be careful with cutting in the middle since many are hollow core.

And yes they are called dutch doors. You could probably get one at a major lumber store, but since they are not normally ordered you will probably have to special order it.

Below is an online site for dutch doors.

Yes, that is called a dutch door. And yes, they can be special ordered or made from a hemlock or fir solid entry door.

But beware. Accuratly aligning the two halves' hinges can be very tricky- They leak cold air and don't lock well. Dutch doors are almost useless from a security standpoint. The traditional piece of hardware used to hold the two halves together is called a sexton. A burglar can get the top open with one good push, but installing two locks and two deadbolts would ruin the look.

I am a locksmith. I have worked on trying to secure lots of dutch doors. They just can't lock up as well as a one piece door, and I wouldn't want one protecting my home and family.

Go to a lumber yard. What you're looking for is called a dutch door. Typically the big box stores don't sell these but you can get them just about anywhere. Look at places like 84 lumber or anyplace where they sell rough materials. Good Luck

I'd leave a note on her door that says stop your double dooring, I can hear you. She'll turn it down
