Because Selena would have been bigger than these newer artists. So would Aaliyah.

First off, the person that shot her wasn't her friend - it was someone who worked for her. She shot Selena when she found out she was going to be fired for stealing.
She was an icon in the Tejano music world and will always be remembered as long as her songs are still getting played. Its just like any other celebrity the dies and the fans keep their memory alive.

She was once at time considered to be the one whom broke the boundries of Hispanic to American culture indifference. Being that she was born and raised in the US and didn't know a single word of her native language and to make songs from simply hearing them and then even to sing the words. She was a vibrant inspiration for many others, not just hispanics. She did what she loved and everyone still loves her for what she did. Considered to be the most influentual singers of her generation. As why she is remembered, for everything she did in her life she is loved, she is remembered for her unselfish and giving nature. She broke social walls down with her music and ultimately was cut down by a woman whom worked for her. She was murdered at a young age when she was just reaching a pinacle in her life. She was talented, beautiful, outgoing, too many things and she was killed for nothing other than some other woman's guilt over stealing money. It's a shame what greed and guilt will drive people to do. The woman who killed her was considered by Selena as her best friend. She will always be remembered especially by those who know her story and heard her angelic voice.
Look for a song called "Dreaming of you" by Selena
Here is the link i looked it up for everyone!
You can hear what i cannot and will not put to words.

Who? I don't remember her... lol
She was a pioneer in the Tejano (sp?) music industry... she had a big fan base and it would be the same as a musician in whatever music realm you like getting shot and murdered as well... Even if you don't like the music (it is not my favorite type of music for sure) you have to say that getting gunned down will always make a star that much more remembered in death.

She is and will always be remembered for her music. She was the first women ever to break the barrier of tejano being all men. Her music became so popular that she sang not just tejano but cumbias, love songs and English music. At the height of her crossover, she was killed. She open the way for new artist like Jennifer Lopez and Thalia, and other artist. so like i said she will always be remembered.

Because she was a rising star on the verge of becoming an international hit. She was shot by her personal assistant (I think). We remember her because of the great loss of what could have been - a lifetime of entertaining people - and making them happy. She deserves to be remembered.

She was on the edge of becoming famous in the U.S. She was already well known and loved by Latinos. They way she died was something she didn't deserve.
Here is a link to her story...

I think it was because she was one of the few first women latino americans who successfully crossed over into the latin music industry without having any deep knowledge of the culture or language...
