The 1970s Battlestar Galactica was anything but brilliant. It was a cheap ploy by a TV network to cash in on the whole Star Wars frenzy. In the final episodes/spin offs, they first get close to Earth and then land on it. Those scenes were based on fact at the time. The rest was fiction.

The story in Battlestar takes its therms from several places, first the destruction of there home world and the escape of the 12 tribes comes from the exodus in the bible.
The third series has take its general story line from the current event in the middle east, it has raised the sort of difficult questions about patriotism and terrorists.

It may be completely made up but at least its made up to have you think it could be possible. Just look at the original show, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Blakes 7, etc...
Every story in those is complete nonsense!

As far as I'm aware the only truth in it is the way the cylons are treated, much the same as 'enemy' civilians by the vast majority of American forces, or so called terror suspects.

No facts whatsoever. It's Hollywood, dude -- maybe outstanding Hollywood, but it's still HOLLYWOOD. Where's the truth/reality gonna come from?
