Actually, I wish Congress had instead insisted on multilateral discussions rather than a troop pullout.
Rice is already off talking with Syria and Iran, and as conservatives aren't comfortable with that, Bush could have accepted a Democratic insistence on doing what he's already doing while simultaneously claiming that Dems are coercing him and thus he could reclaim his conservative bonafides.
With multilateral talks, there would be movement toward an outcome that would result in - you got it - a US troop pullout.
So, with a different tactic, Congress could have gotten what it wanted and even more. The US would be diplomatically re-engaged with the world, and the war would come to some sort of end, the most stable we could hope for.

Liberals do not support the military. They say they do and they may support the men and women, but we all know that is one of the first places they make cuts to save a few $$. That forces our troops to do more with less. How do I know? Twenty years in the Navy tells me so.
If you think that ANYTHING will stabilize the middle east you are smoking something!! The region is so full of religious hatred of each other and us coupled with a political hatred of the U.S. that I don't see anything making it stable or peaceful.
Democrats AND Republicans are famous for putting so much pork in ANY bill they send up that, of course, the "other party"is opposed to Bill X. They voted no because of all the BS you squeezed in, not the bill at heart!
BUT I would like to know why we don't back off Iraq? Not leave completely, but back away and see if they can handle it by themselves. If we back out far enough to move our men and women out of harms way but close enough to return if needed, we would get an honest look at what would happen.
Oh, and keep the media out. All they see/show is the death and destruction. But I can assure you there is plenty of humanitarian work being done as well.

It is time for us all to pull together, stop calling each other names and stop spewing the venom. It is time that someone come up with a way to stabilize Iraq and get the troops home where they belong.
What we need is a bunch of educated Americans to go to the polls and vote for the best candidate that has a good plan to get the country stable and to get our men and women home.

If all the Republican and Democrat politicians are so gung-ho in their "support the troops" rhetoric, why has not one member of Congress objected or even commented on the Bush administration's cut of more than SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS from the Veterans' Administration annual budget?
If military operations in Iraq are NOT about oil, then why has Donald Rumsfeld continually denied Army and Marine commanding generals' requests over the past 28 months to pull TWO DIVISIONS OF TROOPS away from guard duty at Unocal oil fields?

You are going to get a lot of hateful responses, but the fact is that Bush has until September to show results or Republicans have said they will start turning on him. I wish him luck at turning this mess around in three months.

While part of me wishes they'd insisted on holding him to his promise of a compromise, yes, I would far prefer that they place the troops above politics.
Wish the President had done the same. It speaks to character.

OMG Pip, what the heck are you smokin today ?
They never had any intention of prematurely withdrawing from Iraq . And as a future politician , you outta know that by now .
This had nothing to do with class or pride . It had to do with gaining votes based upon a hate campaign against the President .
Puh-lease !!

KOOL-AID ALERT!!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure what you've been smoking, or what government school produced you, but you really need a reality check
All congress was doing was showing that they have no respect for our nation or our military. They filled their so-called funding bill full of pork to fund their social programs
