I have a male Beta fish and I was thinking of getting him a female Beta. Do you think if I do that he will try to kill her? I know they are mean fish, so I really don't want a war on my hands.
What do you think?

You don't want to put two Betas together in the same tank, no matter what.

Mating betas is a really ridiculous process someone once described to me, you have to I geuss wait until one of them has a change in their stripes and that means they're in the mood to mate... I don't really remember. But anyway, it's not just a matter of throwing the two together, they'll kill each other if you do that. literally.

You can't put them together until they are ready to mate and the only way they will mate is if they can see each other but not touch and when the male is ready he will start blowing bubbles to collect on the top of the tank. But I found that my betas never did that. So I always just have a few male betas scattered around the room plus they are prettier than the females. And I don't think they mind being alone....and don't put them in a tank with other fish b/c the other fish will pick on them and eat their fins off!

Your should never put a male and female betta together unless you are mating them, which takes alot of knowledge and experience. The only ones that can go together are a group of females but if you have at least a 5 gallon tank, you could get some other little tank mates for him,I have one of mine in a 5 gallon tank with 4 neon tetras and other small fish would also work just don't put anything that is a fin nipper or aggressive or it could hurt your betta.

Male and female do not have a problem, but I dont want to say they do not get rough. per our local pet store. My pet store gave great advice and now I dont need to get him a friend. I play withhim once a day. The pet store says its a great ay to keep him active and have fun. You get like a compact mirror and place it on the side of the bowl you watch your betta will get really really freaked, but the pet store said its good for them. then I slowly move it around. I also put him out when I am having a party to show people. He has a time of his life!

If you try to keep them in the same container the male will attack her and eventually kill her. Each betta should have it's own container. The exception to this is that females can be kept together in groups.

no, don't put them together. get a 10 gallon tank and put a divider in between. house the male on the left and the female on the right. this is what i'm doing. you can also add a heater and filter to the tank. they will be happier in warmer water and more space.

What size tank do you have him in? If it's a 10gal. or larger community tank with lots of plants to hide in, you can her! If not you will need another small tank. Put her in with him, watch to see what happens, if he chases her and goes at her , take her out, if not leave her in and check on they often!
