I usually rely on a good slap to keep my Dementors off.

It has not been specified within the novels if Dementors are affected by fire.

Dementors might not be hurt by fire because they exist on a more "spiritual" plane, affecting a person's mood more than affecting their physical being, sucking out their soul instead of killing them. Powerful, "warm" thoughts along with a Patronus might be the spiritual equivalent of what we see as "fire."

On the other hand, they are solid, and they have substance to them, so it is possible that they are affected. Dementors are always described as being cold and icy and rotten, so fire would naturally harm something with those qualities.

But, fire in the magical world can be affected by magic to make it not harmful - in Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry is writing a paper about witch-burnings, explaining how, with a simple spell, the fire will not be harmful to the witch at all. It's possible that dementors can affect fire so that it doesn't harm their physical being.
