Please take no offense, but if you were unaware of the existence and threat of computer viruses, then I fear that you would not be qualified to do what needs to be done to get your computer dis-infected and up-and-running. Sorry.

Basically, your computer is hosed.

It will probably need a complete reinstall of the operating system. If you can, back up all your data and documents to another media such as a bunch of CDs as the reformat and reinstall will wipe your computer of everything that you have saved.

Then take it to a good local computer repair shop and be prepared to spend about $100 USD for a re-install of Windows.

Also, have the tech at the shop install a good security suite (anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall) and have him (her) instruct you in its proper use. Expect to pay another $50 USD for this.

Good luck.

You may be able to get some anti virus software to clean it up, but once you get to this point, it is best to save all the files you can and re-install your computer. Even if you get the bug fixed, you will still probably have some damaged files in there. So save all your important stuff, then erase everything, re-install windows... and then add add the anti virus from the beginning.

First what type of system do you have? Dell? Compaq? IBM? HP? Secondly, what operating system are you running? Windows 2000? Windows NT? Windows ME? Windows XP? Xp Professional? XP Business? Unix? Linux? Macintosh OS? Windows Vista?
Third, what type of internet connect do you have? Dial-up? DSL? Broadband? T-1 line? Cable? Depending on the type of internet connection, your problem could be related to your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Who provides your service?

Why can't you do a system restore? Windows Xp and Vista offer this ability.

DO a system search for internet explorer. Copy+paste a new icon on your desktop or send a shortcut to your desktop from the destination folder.

Of course you can't stay on the Internet. If Internet Explorer has disappeared, you don't have any way to browse the Internet. If you can't do a system restore, you have to hire someone to reformat the machine. Don't kid yourself, if your problems are as bad as you say they are, you're going to have to pay out some cash to fix it.

You will probably get a million answers here but if you are not familiar with pc's they I would HIGHLY suggest you take it to a dealer and have them fix it. If there is nothing on the pc that you need then insert the Microsoft cd and reinstall the O/S. That will wipe the entire drive and will clean it up.

to download FREE antivirus software that you can use for now to scan to see if there is any potential virus threat.

there might be a application running in the background causing this. you can also use 'msconfig' at Start, Run, but you have to know what u are doing in order to uncheck the suspicious application that was loaded at boot up. it's really hard to say what it might be without having it in front of me I'd try to find someone who knows about computer to solve this problem for you.

Good Luck.

Your best bet would be to do a reimage of the machine but seeing as you don't have the recovery disks then try to install virus software and run a scan, then try to reinstall IE or download the Firefox browser
