putting diesel fuel in the spark plug hole for a couple of days drying it out and pulling the rope slowing...I think diesel fuel is just about the same as the gasoline with oil mix that you put in the fuel hole...so I used that...If I dry it out good will that work ok?

I got it cheap a few years ago. It was a return to home depot and they rehab-ed it...so if it dies..not much lost.

I took it to home depot where I bought it about 3 yrs ago and the girl there said she would try to fix it for the price of the parts, so she tried very hard, but failed so I gave it to her to keep working on and donate to her church.

remove the muffler...examine the exhaust port, piston,& cylinder........if it,s scored bad.......you will have to replace the piston, ring,s & cylinder......sometime,s you can get them to run for a short period....but soon as it heat,s up...it will seize.

Is the engine locked up? Some do this when the engine will not turn when they pull the rope.
Most times it a dirty carburetor from sitting for a long period of time. The gas evaporates and the oil gums up the carburetor. The other is the Fuel Pump dries out and not flex. It in the carburetor. You can see a little plate (Usually on bottom) with a little vent hole. This where the fuel pump is, it just a little rubber diaphragm.
Now you tell us. LOL! ;-)
Remove the spark plug and see if it pull easy. Then Check the muffler for a dirt plug, Dirt Daubbers love these. Then you may try the Diesel. Parts stores sell a Carbon Cleaner also you may try pour into the Cylinder and let sit. Then pour out pull to clear and re-install the plug. Fill with a fresh Gas/Oil mix and try.

So, are you concerned that your daughter is mad at you, or wondering whether you should have someone look at your bicycle chain?? they seem to be of equal importance in your posting!! She's mad at you for a couple of reasons. You stuck her with two of your kids AND some of the grocery shopping, which is a lot to expect of a 13yo IMO. Then, when someone misinterpreted her situation and gave her some money, she saw it as an unanticipated bonus -- and thn you took that away fom her. I'm not saying you were wrong to take it away, just posing a way she might possibly be looking at the situation. And if you know how to fix a bike chain, then do it. If you don't, then don't mess around with it, you'll probably just make it worse.

Sounds like it's a 2-stroke engine so diesel would have been a bad idea. Make sure the piston is at the bottom of the stroke so the inlet ports are open and any fuel in the crankcase can evaporate. Before you try starting it again buy and fit a new spark plug.

The reason diesel fuel is used is cause that's usually all that's available out in the field when logging. Try Marv's Mystery Oil. It's what is used for lubing engine cylinders by all the pro's I know. Also, blow out with compressed air all the chips from every place you can. If it's all clean and lubed pull slowly until it frees up.

Ah? well? ah? maybe?
Hard to answer that as I don't know what's wrong with the chain saw in the first place....
Lots of us old timers did use diesel as a solvent to clean parts and yes even scoring inside a cylinder and heads.. if the problem is sticking valves that might help but its still better to take it all apart and check the lash...cleaning is okay up to a point then you just got to break out the tools and service manual

Might want to take it to a small engine repair shop before you mess it up to see if they can get it started.
