What's the meaning of " get cracking "

"get cracking" means the same thing as "get started", or "get on with it".
Whenever I use it, I mean "come on, lets do this!"

back in the slave days there was a person in charge of the workers in the fields and if one of the slaves was not working they would get cracked with the whip of the field boss. So the saying lets get cracking comes from the slave owners telling the field boss to get everybody working.

Usually "let's get cracking" means let's get going or let's get started.

Get cracking originally referred to the sound a whip made when used on a horse to speed him up.

a) time to work harder - [from crack the whip]
b) time for breakfast! [from cracking the eggs]
c) time to get HIGH [on crack, the drug]

it means 'let's get moving, let's hurry up'. But this doesn't seem to make sense in the context of the rest of your sentence.

I read that article as well! It is very interesting. Any who, it means a code that the CIA cant figure out or solve/decipher.
