It's been over 35 years since their first album and still no studio greatest hits cds have ever been released. Atlantic should get with it and release a 2-disc set kinda like those essential cds they do at Columbia/Sony. Does anyone know if this will ever happen and when their new album comes out?

It's possible but HIGHLY unlikely. The reason? If they put out a remastered greatest hits with the same quality as any of their studio remasters....most likely sales of the studio albums will drop off.
Those "Essential" cd's, like the "20th Century Masters" from Universal, are remastered, but not to the same bandwidth as the studio albums. They're somewhere between studio and MP3 quality. The reason? If you want a convenient little hits package, you'll buy the essentials or the 20th century masters. If you want sound quality you'll buy the original albums.

As for Atlantic releasing anything, don't hold your breath, I believe Sony/BMG now has the entire AC/DC catalogue under their roof. All the AC/DC stuff is selling like it's always sold, strongly. Why release a greatest hits cd and hurt album sales? What they might do is release another box set. That way, people who want a remastered hits package can still get one, but they're gonna pay for it.

Yeah, I really don't think it's required for AC/DC to have a greatest hits album. AC/DC isn't one of those bands that had filler, really. So why, more or less, dismiss all there albums and put there well known stuff on to one CD? About the only use a greatest hits cd is as good starter packages for people who don't really know the band. Not that I'm opposed to people getting into AC/DC, but I hope they never have a hits CD.

There's a live double CD which is really good, the song TNT sounds awesome on it. You can alos buy Plug Me In boxset which is the era of Bon Scott & Brian Johnson. It's a DVD but it's like greatest hits live and also pretty good. AC/DC have done so many albums that it would take a lot of work compliling one Greatest Hits album

They're not done yet, they don't need a Greatest Hits album. Who Made Who is probably the closest we'll come to it, at least in the near future.

Maybe not one called greatest hits, however they do have 2 box sets and as far as I'm concerned, all their albums are greatest hits. They rock!!!
